Ingredients

  • 2 cups of whole, raw almonds
  • ¼ cup butter, melted
  • 1 tblsp salt
  • 2 tsp white sugar
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp celery powder or curry powder
  • NEED
  • Light flavoured wood chips like beech or apple

Description

Why buy expensive smoked almonds when you can make these ‘more-ish’ treats yourself.

Directions

  • 1. Preheat the gas smoker to LOW: 105-135°C (220-275°F).
  • 2. Melt the butter in a small pot.
  • 3. Add the almonds and stir to coat them thoroughly.
  • 4. Remove from the heat and cover.
  • 5. Place the onion powder, celery powder, salt and sugar in a spice grinder and grind until it forms a fine powder.
  • 6. Drain the almonds, coat with the powder and spread on a tray that is lined with baking powder.
  • 7. Place inside the gas smoker and smoke for 30-60 minutes.
  • 8. Remove and cool before storing in an air tight container.
  • 9. Note the almonds will be soft when they are hot but will become crunchy when they cool.
